First Nations - Sport Fishers Conflict
Resolution Group
The Fraser
Valley Angling Guides Association has been
working closely with the First Nations - Sport
Fishers Conflict Resolution Group for the past
year. This group came together after an
altercation on the River between a First Nations
Drift fisher and a Sport Fisher that escalated
to the point that Chief Willie Charlie was shot
in the face with a pellet gun. To prevent
a repeat of this kind of incident the Conflict
resolution group has developed a number of
initiatives including a video to encourage
appropriate behaviour between all Fishers on the
river. The Video below was a joint
production of both First Nations fishers and
Sport Fishers with the FVAGA providing boats and
manpower.
